Kim Ala’ilima, LMFT
Welcome! I’m Kim Alailima and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant in Training. I have been in practice for the last twenty years and was trained in EMDR by the EMDR Institute 12 years ago.
I utilize EMDR in conjunction with multiple mind-body interventions, using Somatic Resourcing, Thought Field Therapy, traditional spiritual practices, Mindfulness, Meditation and Guided visualizations. EMDR allows for so much creativity and I have been perpetually excited to integrate it into my work with clients.
I was additionally trained in EMDR Consulting’s model of EMDR 2 years ago and use the conceptualization of EMDR in every session. I am trained in Play Therapy, Art and Narrative Therapy, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Military Systems and the Dept. of Defense’s Trauma Protocols, Family Systems and Couples therapy. The majority of my current caseload are professional adults, though I have experience doing EMDR with children and couples as well. I work with a number of therapists as they start their private practices, need support managing caseloads, get trained in EMDR and want to experience it for themselves.
In consultation, I focus on the basics so the clinician has a solid foundation and conceptualization of EMDR. I want them to feel confident to later be flexible and creative in treating their clients as the whole person. We do case presentations and consultation, exercises, and role play. I teach supplemental ways to educate clients about EMDR, get them prepared for EMDR, and help the clinician through the entire process. You can also find me on LinkedIn, where I put up weekly videos that seek to educate clinicians and the larger public about EMDR.
I look forward to potentially working with you!

I am clinical psychologist in Honolulu Hawai’i. I was born and raised on the island of Oahu in Kāneʻohe. I began my work in 1996 with the Sex Abuse Treatment Center and continued with several community agencies before beginning my private practice in 2008.
My introduction to EMDR began while working with interfamilial sexual abuse. I was formally trained with Shapiro’s EMDR model in 2014 and began using EMDR as my primary treatment modality. I was Certified through EMDR international association in 2018 and received additional training through EMDR Consulting as an integrative approach to EMDR in the clinical setting at that time. I am currently supporting others in their desire to learn and grow in EMDR as a Coach In Training (CIT) and providing consultation.
I have worked extensively in the area of sexual abuse and domestic violence, adults molested as children, addiction/ alcoholism, transitions from incarceration, family members affected by the disease of addiction/alcoholism in addition to other clinical populations.
I am of mixed ethnicity and have a deep respect for my Hawaiian culture. I believe that every individual has the potential for wholeness and I utilize a cultural approach familiar to those with Hawaiian/Kanaka Maoli back ground. I am honored to be a part of your journey.
